The process: This was tough to pick and rank, because most of the films I seen this year were famous and critically acclaimed. And before every film, I checked their reviews and rating, so in nutshell i filtered movies before actually watching them. Although I have seen some very bad movies as well but the number of great movies was bigger.

I wanted to make top 10 list but because of number of films, I had to make it 25. However you can consider the first 10 movies as my Top 10, but all of these movies are of same value for me.

It is not good idea to just randomly pick top 25 movies which came to mind quickly or just managed to make an emotional impact only. In that scenario I would have missed many good movies. However this is 'my' top list, not the 'best movies of all time'. So it might be biased and totally subjective. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest will always be higher than The Godfather for me, because the impact which the previous had on me was greater, not that I didn't enjoyed Godfather, but the previous really moved me.

However there is need for proper system of ranking to achieve the list, in order to have a well established result. Doesn't matter what are the criterion is applied, there should be some base on which to rank movies. I used following method for ranking-

First eliminate all the shit movies and crap from the list. It would help remove the unwanted clutter.

Then for remaining movies, assign values out of five, on following points each and ranked the movies based om how much score they got:

1. Emotional Impact: How much it moved me emotionally and got me thinking for a long time. This is the first reaction to the piece and to how much extent it impacted me emotionally. Thats what movies do best right, making an emotional impact.

2. Personal Worth: This defines how much it is important to me personally, and how much it can provide on subsequent viewings. Meaning that a cool mindless superhero movie might have less worth than a moving and poignant piece of cinema that teaches something or is particularly relatable. This criteria is totally subjective and and varies depending on the personal choices.

3. Technicality : How well its shot, how well it looks and feel, and how much details have been put and what are the effects of them, all of these include in this category. Also how it is acted and directed also goes in this. There are also many other technical components such as Music / score, Cinematography, Lighting, Editing, Sound Design, Costumes, and Production.

4. Entertainment Value: It is simply how much pure pleasure do you get from watching a particular movie. No matter how it amuses you, but how much it amuses. And there should not be justified reasons for you to feel good about a movie. If you enjoy a movie, you do.

5. Rewatchability: It means how much you love to watch a movie again and again. It obviously depend on how much good a movie is, therefore this category also works for previous categories.

6. General Opinion: The last one and most intuitive as well. It is your hearts calling. You just love some movies regardless of their actual worth or quality and thats okay! We cant neglect this factor, because ultimately this also depends on the all other previous categories.

And voilà you have your list.

Maqbool | Movie Review

Maqbool - 2003 Directed by : Vishal Bhardwaj Maqbool is a clever character study of a man's gradual descent from loyalty to betrayal; from respect to rage; from reason to madness; from life to eventual and tragic death. Vishal Bhardwaj's Maqbool is powerful adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth, which deals with themes of loyalty, betrayal, love, guilt and death. Set in underworld of Mumbai, Maqbool is realistic portrait of world of gangsters' and their psyche. It is oftentimes dark, serious, repressed and at unexpected times wickedly funny.  Jahagir Khan aka Abba ji(Pankaj Kapoor with his Brando-esque mannerisms), is an aging don of Mumbai, who runs the crime world, with the help of his loyal lieutenant, Maqbool(Irrfan Khan) and Kaka, his loyal(underrated Piyush Mishra). Purohit and Pundit, are two utterly corrupt cops who help them fight their rivals(played charmingly by Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri respectively). They are film's charm and wit. ...

Has Babasaheb Ambedkar's Vision Come True?

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, fondly known as Babasaheb, remains an iconic figure in Indian history, celebrated for his relentless fight against social injustices and his pivotal role in framing the Indian Constitution. Soon India will mark the completion of 75th years of our constitution. It becomes imperative therefore, to scrutinize whether the dreams harmonised by Babasaheb have indeed been materialised or not. The present landscape of the country sees a resurgence of the ideas of Ambedkar for multiple reasons. And his ideas do supply a solid framework - still, for many of the contemporary issues, which even now seem insurmountable. Central to his philosophical vision for the country was the establishment of a society grounded in equality and justice. His work "Annihilation of Caste" remains a seminal treatise on the subject, where he critiques the rigid and dehumanizing caste hierarchies. For him, the exploitation of Dalits was the major problem that sprouted from this rigid caste ...

Lying as he is -  Oblivious, on a dusty road of  Fractured Earth,  I see in him a look that is Not human.  For he seems worried not  About things he had not done  Or regrets about his youth.  Nor there is a choice, a hesitation, Etched into every fabric of his being. Amidst this burden of thoughts,  These echoes of guilt and memories  Like restless, unkind ghosts  Haunts the corridors of my mind,  There blooms an innocence, Like the fleeting grace of God, Unaware of his Purity.  He being only a pup, afterall.   Looking at him, it seems Universe revealed its secrets  To me. But the world weeps Alone, still.  ---------- SECOND VERSION  Lying as he is -  Oblivious, on a dusty road of  Fractured Earth,  I see in him a look that is Not human.  For he seems worried not  About things he had not done  Or regrets about his Youth.  Nor there is a choice, a hesitation, Etched int...
