Life | Movie Review

Life - 2017
Directed by : Daniel Espinosa

The idea of this film might or might not be original but it offered a good thrill nonetheless. No film have absolutely original idea of its own. Every film has some influences on it of other movies. It might seem that this movie is just a poorly implemented replica of Alien. But Alien itself had drawn some its influences from others. So it is not completely unethical for a film to get its influences from other movies, given that it have its own world and own bunch of original ideas. And Life has some of its own unique achievements.

Although it is definitely not one of the greatest sci-fi horror flick but it provides a decently engaging thrill throughout. It would be inappropriate to compare it to something like Alien, 2001, Gravity or some of the bests out there. We would only be disappointing ourselves because of it. When you watch it as an independent movie itself, it provides a fairly decent watch. And it claims no better.

Anyhow it is one those movies which you dont regret watching, still at the same time think that maybe you should have watched something better. It is low brain commercial movie, and it does its job well.

There is not much of a plot or confusing storyline to talk about, just bunch of astronauts freaking over a newly found outer species which threatens to kill them. Thats all there is with respect to plot.

One of my favorite part of the film was the fact that it created that sense of terror and dread. That alien really looked and felt frightening. It had its own character and had that dreading presence. It really happened because of some impressive special effects used to create that creature. The movie was visually pleasing to look at, as nearly all space movies are.

Maybe the best thing with this movie was Jake Gyllenhaal. No matter which movie he is in, he always brings something great. While the other cast did whatever was required from them, but Gyllenhaal was surely the odd one out. The other cast including Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson, Sanada and Bakare did a decent job too. But problem was characterisation. The characters looked unrealistic, no matter how much talented they are, if they dont have anything to work on they are surely going to look odd. And they did actually look odd. With only exception of Gyllenhaal and thats why he deserves more appreciation.

Although it is fairly enjoyable movie, there were many of its faults too. One was psychological incoherence of characters. They surely did not look like NASA astronauts but some freaked out teenagers who have no idea what to do next, of course that was one of the fun reasons to enjoy this film as well, but its hardly possible to overlook that fault.

Overall it was an engaging watch, with its own little flaws with its own little graces. It was just fine. And dont know about others but i loved the ending. It was amusing.

Rating : ★★★

Maqbool | Movie Review

Maqbool - 2003 Directed by : Vishal Bhardwaj Maqbool is a clever character study of a man's gradual descent from loyalty to betrayal; from respect to rage; from reason to madness; from life to eventual and tragic death. Vishal Bhardwaj's Maqbool is powerful adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth, which deals with themes of loyalty, betrayal, love, guilt and death. Set in underworld of Mumbai, Maqbool is realistic portrait of world of gangsters' and their psyche. It is oftentimes dark, serious, repressed and at unexpected times wickedly funny.  Jahagir Khan aka Abba ji(Pankaj Kapoor with his Brando-esque mannerisms), is an aging don of Mumbai, who runs the crime world, with the help of his loyal lieutenant, Maqbool(Irrfan Khan) and Kaka, his loyal(underrated Piyush Mishra). Purohit and Pundit, are two utterly corrupt cops who help them fight their rivals(played charmingly by Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri respectively). They are film's charm and wit. ...

Has Babasaheb Ambedkar's Vision Come True?

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, fondly known as Babasaheb, remains an iconic figure in Indian history, celebrated for his relentless fight against social injustices and his pivotal role in framing the Indian Constitution. Soon India will mark the completion of 75th years of our constitution. It becomes imperative therefore, to scrutinize whether the dreams harmonised by Babasaheb have indeed been materialised or not. The present landscape of the country sees a resurgence of the ideas of Ambedkar for multiple reasons. And his ideas do supply a solid framework - still, for many of the contemporary issues, which even now seem insurmountable. Central to his philosophical vision for the country was the establishment of a society grounded in equality and justice. His work "Annihilation of Caste" remains a seminal treatise on the subject, where he critiques the rigid and dehumanizing caste hierarchies. For him, the exploitation of Dalits was the major problem that sprouted from this rigid caste ...

Lying as he is -  Oblivious, on a dusty road of  Fractured Earth,  I see in him a look that is Not human.  For he seems worried not  About things he had not done  Or regrets about his youth.  Nor there is a choice, a hesitation, Etched into every fabric of his being. Amidst this burden of thoughts,  These echoes of guilt and memories  Like restless, unkind ghosts  Haunts the corridors of my mind,  There blooms an innocence, Like the fleeting grace of God, Unaware of his Purity.  He being only a pup, afterall.   Looking at him, it seems Universe revealed its secrets  To me. But the world weeps Alone, still.  ---------- SECOND VERSION  Lying as he is -  Oblivious, on a dusty road of  Fractured Earth,  I see in him a look that is Not human.  For he seems worried not  About things he had not done  Or regrets about his Youth.  Nor there is a choice, a hesitation, Etched int...
