Us - 2019
Directed By : Jordan Peele

Us is a very layered horror film. It has lot to say, apart from being an excellent tense horror flick. Jordan Peele had given similar film before, Get Out, which was not very subtle like Us, and was different from this one, but there are same techniques and approaches which obviously draws few valid parallels. Although keeping all that in mind, its safe to say that Us is its own thing and should not be compared to the former film of Peele.

Us is deliberately and so skillfully shot, it is certainly a solid work. The cinematography and editing is top notch. The score is chilly and effective. You feel that a lot has been done to achieve what we have seen in the film. The acting is fantastic, especially Nyong'o, who is so dynamic and skilled. She is literally playing two people in the film. Its an ambitious film to say the least. Its overwhelming only to think about how much rich symbolism it has and how much thinking is done to make it.

The plot is overwhelmingly complex to describe. There are twists and turns, and lot of reading has to be done after watching it. The ending is mind boggling and so metaphorical. You truly love the movie after you have enough context about it. This movie might feel mediocre when perceived as a common horror thriller. It is much more than that. Its a bold movie.

The movie follows an American couple of Wilson's when they go on to their vacation, only to find out that group of doppelgängers(google it!) are out to get them. Later they learn that whole world have their own on doppelgängers. Its a unique metaphor for rich vs poor, white vs minority, privileged vs unprivileged or anything you want to interpret. The real people are having all they want, here the Wilson's are going on vacation on beach with their kids, having fun. While their counterparts are living underground tunnels and dont have any importance. There are many ways to interpretation for this film, and thats the fun part. Its a puzzle. One surely needs to read a lot after watching it. And then everything makes sense. In retrospect, every minute was deliberately shot and presented. Its greatly structured.

One of the things the film really interested me was the family of Wilson's. How relatable they were. Its the best representation of black family I have seen in the films. How similar their emotions were, how similar their dreams and aspirations. Its so frustratingly sad to see people fighting for having their color different. And its just not about black vs white, its about many other things. This film made me less racist. Tolerance is when you accept the fact that every human is same from within, everyone have more or less same drives. And when you overcome the bridge of little petty differences of way of living between you and them, tolerance begins.

Maqbool | Movie Review

Maqbool - 2003 Directed by : Vishal Bhardwaj Maqbool is a clever character study of a man's gradual descent from loyalty to betrayal; from respect to rage; from reason to madness; from life to eventual and tragic death. Vishal Bhardwaj's Maqbool is powerful adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth, which deals with themes of loyalty, betrayal, love, guilt and death. Set in underworld of Mumbai, Maqbool is realistic portrait of world of gangsters' and their psyche. It is oftentimes dark, serious, repressed and at unexpected times wickedly funny.  Jahagir Khan aka Abba ji(Pankaj Kapoor with his Brando-esque mannerisms), is an aging don of Mumbai, who runs the crime world, with the help of his loyal lieutenant, Maqbool(Irrfan Khan) and Kaka, his loyal(underrated Piyush Mishra). Purohit and Pundit, are two utterly corrupt cops who help them fight their rivals(played charmingly by Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri respectively). They are film's charm and wit. ...

Has Babasaheb Ambedkar's Vision Come True?

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, fondly known as Babasaheb, remains an iconic figure in Indian history, celebrated for his relentless fight against social injustices and his pivotal role in framing the Indian Constitution. Soon India will mark the completion of 75th years of our constitution. It becomes imperative therefore, to scrutinize whether the dreams harmonised by Babasaheb have indeed been materialised or not. The present landscape of the country sees a resurgence of the ideas of Ambedkar for multiple reasons. And his ideas do supply a solid framework - still, for many of the contemporary issues, which even now seem insurmountable. Central to his philosophical vision for the country was the establishment of a society grounded in equality and justice. His work "Annihilation of Caste" remains a seminal treatise on the subject, where he critiques the rigid and dehumanizing caste hierarchies. For him, the exploitation of Dalits was the major problem that sprouted from this rigid caste ...

Lying as he is -  Oblivious, on a dusty road of  Fractured Earth,  I see in him a look that is Not human.  For he seems worried not  About things he had not done  Or regrets about his youth.  Nor there is a choice, a hesitation, Etched into every fabric of his being. Amidst this burden of thoughts,  These echoes of guilt and memories  Like restless, unkind ghosts  Haunts the corridors of my mind,  There blooms an innocence, Like the fleeting grace of God, Unaware of his Purity.  He being only a pup, afterall.   Looking at him, it seems Universe revealed its secrets  To me. But the world weeps Alone, still.  ---------- SECOND VERSION  Lying as he is -  Oblivious, on a dusty road of  Fractured Earth,  I see in him a look that is Not human.  For he seems worried not  About things he had not done  Or regrets about his Youth.  Nor there is a choice, a hesitation, Etched int...
